Based in Central Connecticut, Funky Business specializes exclusively in weddings (& corporate/private events) from Massachussetts to New Jersey. We take great pride in our ability to prepare a totally customized performance for each event, and by accepting only a select number of events per year, we ensure total attention is paid to your specific wants/needs. We'll work very closely with you to make sure you will be completely satisfied!
Funky Business is: Lisa Walsh (Lead Vocals, Percussion), Steve Chameides (Lead Vocals, Keyboards, Percussion), Tom Walsh (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Mel Perry (Bass) and Charlie Napolitano (Drums, Percussion). Each member has almost 20 years live perfoming experience with almost 10 years performing together as a group. Funky Business is ALWAYS the same five musicians. No one in the band is ever substituted!
When we speak initially, we'll find out exactly what you're looking for at your event and can either surprise you with an incredible mix of great songs or completely build our song list to your specifications. It's YOUR choice!

Of course every event is different, so our pricing is based on very specific factors; length of event, level of customization (cocktail hour, song selections), travel required, venue size, etc.
Typically, events range from $3500-$4500 (of course, there can be exceptions up or down). All prices are confirmed on our performance agreement and we require a 30% deposit to secure your date. We'll work out those details when we speak...

Do you use a professional sound company?
Absolutely. Although many wedding bands mix their own sound from the stage, we choose to concentrate on performance (there's just too much to worry about in mixing a band live to try to do both!). We employ a world-class, professional sound engineer that has worked with the band for many years (sure it costs us a little more, but we care how we sound! Your price already includes this benefit). We're very proud to say that you won't find a better sounding band than Funky Business!
Is our wedding date available?
Generally, 6-9 months notice is required, but since we carefully choose the number of events we perform each year, there's a good chance that we'll be available. It's as easy as sending a quick email.

The music at your cocktail hour is just as important as the music at your reception. There are a number of options but by far the most popular choice has always been the full band playing a unique mix of standards, adult contemporary and modern jazz. Give us a call and we can discuss what will work best for your event. Of course, you may have something entirely different already in mind for your cocktail hour and can hire Funky Business for the reception only.
Can we choose songs from your list?
Yes, but please be aware, even though it's on our list, it may not be ready on command. Please provide us with all of your recommendations well in advance (minimum 2 months)
Will you learn special songs that we want?
Absolutely. Learning special/unique music for couples is part of what makes us different! Of course, we'll need plenty of advance notice to learn new material (minimum 8 weeks notice)
Do you play private parties other than weddings?

and we'll work out the details!
Can we come to see you perform live?
Absolutely. Make an appointment to come to our private showcase room and hear us up close and personal! (the best part about coming to a private showcase is that we can schedule it around you- after work or on the weekend!). You'll meet the same five musicians that will actually be at your wedding (no "mix and match" players!).
Just ask. We'll mail you a package consisting of a CD (with a variety of styles), songlist, photo and references.

Normally, the band will break 15 minutes for every hour performed (but we can certainly work around any special scheduling that you have in mind). CD's are played (by our sound engineer) during breaks through the same sound system the band uses.
Absolutely! Funky Business is one of the few bands out there that will actually perform a "dinner" set at no extra charge.
Absolutely! This is a big question many people have when deciding on a band. Introductions, special announcements, toasts, etc. are always professionally handled by our lead vocalist, Lisa. Be sure to ask our references how they felt about her handling of this aspect of their wedding! If you have something else in mind just let us know and we'll help with that too. We can even help with suggestions for what works best.
How far in advance do I need to reserve Funky Business?
Typically, our clients book us 9-12 months in advance. Of course, there are occasions where there is an opening as soon as 3 months out (rare, but it does happen!). The only way to find out is to call or email us!
Can one of my guests "sit-in" with the band?
That's up to you... If "Uncle Ted" plays a mean Saxophone, or "Cousin Cathy" has always wanted to sing at your wedding, you'll just have to decide if you want to hear it! Seriously, all we ask is that we know in advance so that we can prepare, and ensure that the "guest performance" goes smoothly.
